Pink Goes Red for Heart Health 2019

The Women's Health and Wellness Committee hosted Zumba into AKAtion in recognition of Pink Goes Red for Heart Health Day. In addition to Zumba, participants were provided with health tips and facts about heart disease. The sorority is committed to raising awareness about the No.1 killer of women and how we can take control of our health. 

POW Book Discussion - BECOMING

The Pearls of Wisdom Book Club discusses the book, “Becoming” by Former First Lady Michelle Obama.

Founders' Day Social and Impact Day

The Sisterly Relations Committee hosted GUO's Annual Founders' Day Social for area members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Travel size toiletries were collected for Transitions Family Violence Services.

Home Buyers and Budgeting Seminar

In an effort to help strengthen families, GUO partnered with representatives from Golston Real Estate, OVM Financial, and Wells Fargo to host a Home Buying and Budgeting Seminar. A wealth of information was shared to help attendees better understand the home buying process, budgeting and financial management.

Seasonal Wrap and Food Drive

GUO continues to serve all mankind with a Seasonal Wrap and Food Drive. Items were given to local schools and shelters.

1908 Playground Mobilization Day

Members of Gamma Upsilon Omega participated in AKA's International 1908 Playground Mobilization Community Impact Day by cleaning and restoring the playground and surrounding property of the Downtown Hampton Child Development Center.

S.E.E.D.S Back-to-School Event

Members of Gamma Upsilon Omega Chapter volunteered at the S.E.E.D.S Family and Community Resource Fair. Parents and Guardians attended information sessions while the children participated in fun-filled activities and received a backpack with school supplies.

NAMI-AKA Mental Health Event

The Membership Committee's Pearls of Wisdom Book Club recognized Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month with a book discussion. Representatives from NAMI-Hampton/Newport News and Riverside Behavioral Health Center shared valuable information about Mental Health.

Little Dresses for Africa

Several members of GUO spent a week making 75 Little Dresses for Africa (LDFA). The sorority’s goal is to collect over 29,000 dresses to be sent to villages in Tanzania, South Africa, and Liberia.
